Kayte went to Modoc High school in Alturas, California for her elementary studies and graduated in 1998. She later attended the University of California, Santa Barbara. Kayte completed on the women’s basketball team with future WNBA players Erin Buscher, Lindsay Taylor, and Kristen Mann. She was named to the All-freshman team in 1999 and Big West Player of the year.

Christensen became selected by the Phoenix Mercury within the 1/3 round (fortieth overall) of the 2002 WNBA Draft. Kayte spent 4 seasons with the Mercury before signing for Houston Comets on March 24, 2006. She was waived on May 19, 2006, and did not make Houston’s regular-season roster.
