Jennifer Crompton is an American reporter in the Portsmouth bureau, she has always loved writing. Jennifer says it’s the only job she ever imagined herself doing. Jennifer is a New Hampshire native who has never wanted to live anywhere else. So, Jennifer feels incredibly fortunate to have been doing what she loves, in the state she loves, for nearly 25 years.
Her family moved a bit while Jennifer was growing up. They lived in Keene, Salem, West Hampstead, as well as Atkinson. Jennifer spent summers sailing in Portsmouth, her Dad’s hometown. She moved there after graduating from UNH, got married, and it’s also where Jennifer and her husband Bob have raised two wonderful children (and three dogs).
She describes her tenure with WMUR-TV as pretty non-traditional. Jennifer has felt at home here since 1989 and has held nearly every job in the newsroom! Jennifer started as a show producer, then the reporter then got her dream job as Seacoast Bureau reporter in 1991.
Jennifer had some vocal chord issues so she went back to writing behind the scenes, became Executive Producer, Assistant News Director, weekend anchor, as well as reporter (after some surgery!) and then in the year 2000, was honored to become News Director. After the year 2004 New Hampshire Primary, she took a break to spend time with family and moved to part-time, producing pieces for NH Chronicle (another dream job).
This past January, with her kids grown, she had the opportunity to return to her roots. Jennifer says she’s excited and grateful to be back at the Seacoast Bureau full-time as well as hopes to fairly and compassionately reflect the goings-on of a community as well as state that is her heartfelt home.
