Ryan joined the WFTS weather team in August 2012 from WNYW-TV where she spends two years working as a weather anchor. She is thrilled to be back in her hometown Florida where she grew up with her family. Shay was brought up in a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale and received her Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication from the University of Florida.
Likewise, she has also earned a Master’s degree in Geoscience with a concentration in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. Straight out of college in 1997, she had her first on-air weather forecasting at WXVT-TV where she served for only one year before she made her move to join WSAV-TV where she spends almost three years chasing the storms. In addition, Shay has also had a remarkable five years working for ABC 7(WXYZ-TV) from October 2002 to February 2008.
More so, she has also worked as a weather anchor for Fox 5 News in New York City and Fox News Channel. Beyond that, she has extensive experience covering severe storms, record flooding, and heatwaves during her time as a meteorologist in New York, Michigan, Georgia, and Mississippi.
During her days in Savannah Ryan covered Hurricane Floyd and took part in the largest peacetime evacuation in U.S. history. Staying at the Emergency Management Shelter for 36 hours, she reported on key safety updates and tracked the storm’s path.
